Equity House Scholarship Program

Partners and Donors of Equity House Belize,
The Scholarship program at Equity House affords a rare opportunity to have an immediate impact on the lives of the recipients and a lasting influence on the infrastructure of Hopkins Village. There are many very intelligent and talented young people that see very few options to pursue a career. This is not a handout, it comes with commitment to give back to the community by working at the hospital for a period of two years. It is only through programs like this that these young people have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Introduction to the Scholarship program
With the help of the international organization, World Hospital Project (worldhospitalproject.org), Equity House will acquire a health care facility in the coming years. It is in anticipation of this much appreciated endeavor; Equity House has designed The Scholarship Program.

The Program aims to address the human resources needed for the new facility. It also provides an opportunity and incentive for young people in Hopkins Village to attend a university and to pursue higher education, preparing them for a career in their respective fields of study. The areas of study are aligned with the projected needs for Equity House to effectively manage a health care facility. The current areas of study are: nursing; financial management; clinical laboratory science; pharmacy and radiology.

These areas may be expanded as further needs are identified.

The scholarship covers all expenses associated with tuition, fees, books, and lodging. All of the current programs are for two to four years. The students are bound by a contract and must maintain a 75% average in all subjects or the scholarship is terminated. In return for the scholarship, the recipients are obligated to work at Equity House for a minimum of two years upon completion of their education. If they do not fulfill this commitment, they are required to pay back the scholarship in full.
This fall, the first four scholarship recipients will embark on their college careers.

This program can only be made possible through the generous contributions of many donors. The major donors so far, have been: Barbara Neel (Asbury United Methodist Church); Steve Tobe, Stuart Silverman and Jim Knowles. In order to provide more opportunities and to make dreams come true, additional donors are necessary.

Equity House thanks you for your consideration and we look forward to your generous participation in this life changing program.
It is only through programs like this that these young people have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
