Full Description:
This Placencia Caribbean Sea front home perches on a half acre of land midway on the 16 mile long Placencia Peninsula at its highest point, six feet above sea level on 100 feet of Caribbean Sea front.
This Caribbean Sea front home was designed by a North Carolina architect with experience in designing wood frame houses which have stood up to hurricanes on the Outer Banks of the Carolinas. He produced a striking design which is unique on the Peninsula. Principles incorporated in the design include:
-
Local hardwoods and building materials and styles.
-
Open to the beach and sea, lots of glass and covered outdoor space.
-
Natural cooling through capturing and filtering through the prevailing northeast sea breeze.
-
Both shared and private spaces for two couples or families to enjoy the house at the same time.
-
Funky yet functional.
Three separate wood frame buildings and a large covered pavillion sit on a reinforced concrete platform that is 10 feet high and supported by 12" reinforced concrete columns set into massive concrete footings, dug to the water line. At 16 feet above sea level, and protected by False Caye and the Barrier Reef to the east, the living areas are well above any conceivable storm surge from the Caribbean Sea.
There are two large bedroom and bathroom buildings and a common living/dining/kitchen/pantry building on the platform which add up to 1,300 square feet; as well as a laundry/utility building, outdoor showers, and secure storage building at the beach level. The storage building is large enough to be converted to a caretaker's apartment or an additional bedroom.
Way up on the roof there's a star deck which provides a 360 view of the Gulf of Honduras and False Caye to the east, north and south along the Peninsula, and west over the Lagoon to the Maya Mountains. Spectacular suntanning by day and breathtaking star gazing by night.
Cocoplums, coconut palms, palmettos, cashews, sea grapes, mangoes, wild papayas, and soursap are some of the many trees on the property and bougainvellia and hibiscus were recently planted.
The road is now paved from the tip of the Peninsula to the Placencia Village and a new international airport, 18 hole golf course, casino, and yacht marina are under construction, all within 20 minutes of this oceanfront home. There are several small resorts and stores within walking distance and the best restaurant in Placencia is just up the beach at the Maya Beach Hotel.
The airstrip with hourly flights to and from Belize City by Tropic Air and Maya Air is a few miles south. Placencia Village, about 7 miles away, offers a full range of stores and services including a great gelato shop. False Caye with lots of coral and good snorkeling is a short paddle from the front door. Snorkeling from shore is also possible along a line of coral mounts extending about a mile north. Access to the lagoon with its manatees, crocodiles, and different species of fish is a short walk across the road.
Sale price includes all custom made hardwood furniture, including queen bed platforms with storage, mattresses, linens, kitchen equipment, yard tools, and everything else needed to provide an opportunity to just turn the key and move in.
